Celebrating Super Authors

We have had a fantastic 2 weeks of writing in Room 3. There have been many amazing writing pieces produced by every single Room Three member over the past 2 weeks. We love sharing our writing and know that our writing is meant to be shared. Here we are sharing our Mt Everest writing with a buddy.

Keep an eye out for our writing popping up in the latest newsletter, the Gore Main Facebook page, our blog and on seesaw. You can also see our writing on the writing wall in Room Three.

Science experiments

We have just completed 2 weeks of science. This unit had a chemistry theme. Here we are learning about solids, liquids and gases after we made icecream. We pretended each child was a molecule answer acted out what molecules look like in solids, liquids and gases.

Solid: the molecules are tight together and can't move

Liquid: the molecules can move a little bit

Gas: the molecules are far apart and can move freely

Preparing the incubator for lockdown!

The incubator is in lockdown!! We have prepared it for hatching on Monday. The auto turning tray has been removed and the humidity is up to 80% inside it. We have opened the vents so plenty of oxygen can get in too. We are not able to open the incubator now until after the chicks have hatched. Fingers crossed we have some chicks on Monday!!!

Incubating Eggs

Today we started incubating our chicken eggs. We have to carefully monitor the incubator regularly keeping the temperature and humidity at the perfect number.

We have a variety of eggs in the incubator some are even blue! Thanks for collecting the fertilised eggs Lisa!

We hope to have chicks in 3 weeks (21 days). Cross your fingers for us!!!

Our Inquiry Project: Hen House

We have been busy with out inquiry project last week. We have decided where we will put the hen house.

We were lucky enough to get to visit Room 8 and see Hanna and Jesse's chickens. They told us lots about hens.

Later in the day they came into our classroom to give us some information about keeping chickens. They told us what our coop should include and gave us some measurements for laying boxes.

We decided on our hen house design and drew out the plan to scale on the floor. We got in contact with our builder (Caedyn's Dad) Duncan and sent him a letter detailing our plans.

Happiness is.....

Last week the children wrote and published these poems all by themselves. They are getting good at using google slides to share their fantastic writing with you all!

Designing our hen house

We thought carefully about what hens need to survive and what the perfect hen house would look like. We have designed and labeled our own dream hen houses. Here is what we came up with.
